1974 Dodge Dart --- bought 2/04/2004
OK, for all those who ask WHY!!. I purchased it at a good price. It is a 53k mile car (true mileage) and sat for over a year. This is my commuting car to and from work. The car is completely straight and is decent on gas. It has a 225 cubic inch slant six with a 1bbl, 3 speed auto tranny, am/fm radio(not even stereo) and a couple of weird options like country/city horn. Everything works!! Just a broken taillight and a tired suspension. The front & rear windows are also leaking, the space where the spare tire resides is rusted out. I will be fixing all of it. I hope!!
This is how I got it. I took these pics the first day I had it. YES, that is original mileage. An old woman owned it until about 5years ago and garage kept it. When I picked it up, you couldn't see thru the windows! I didn't realize they were tinted!! (oh they aren't) I washed those before I left that night.
Here is the front/rear seat. If you look closely you can see the mold build up on the door panels but otherwise it was in REALLY nice condition. It had a REAL musty odor due to a leak on the passenger side of the windshield. I used FEBREEZE inside and cleaned the interior a bit.
Here is the venerable 225cu in slant 6 one barrel carb. This is the trunk. Remember, I got the car like this. I have cleaned it a little, when I am completely done I will post again.
A few days later and after John Gavlik and I did the intake/exhaust gasket, plugs, oil & filter, cap, rotor, starter, fixed the vacuum advance, adjust the steering and tightened the fuel line. All this took us less then 3.5 hours!!! This car is a breeze to work on!!! (get it breeze! febreeze! -- poor attempt at humor!). Just to annoy me, John waxed the corner of the hood!!!
So, the next decent day, a week later, when it was 40 degrees, I washed it and cleaned the interior a bit! It is actually presentable now! and runs REAL nice and quiet!!! I also fixed the nonlocking locks. Man the original paint actually shines when it is clean!!! I have to wax it soon! When it warms up, I will do a more thorough job inside and out.
