TROOP 220
Summer Camp '99
Troop
220 and Troop 347 combined forces for Summer Camp at Worth Ranch just outside of Mineral Wells, TX on the banks of the Brazos River. We arrived Monday morning June 28th just in time for breakfast.
The heat was overwhelming the first day! There was no wind at all. However, the free swim at the pool saved the day. The best part of camp was joining the sunrise club atop Kyle Mountain. We hiked up the mountain late Thursday night and camped there. Friday morning we watched the sunrise and the view was spectacular. To see it one must walk out onto rock formations that simply stick out from the side of the mountain.
The worst part of camp (for the adults) was "hernia hill". Between the parade grounds, where everything happens, and our campsite there is a cliff. They have built approximately 100 irregular stairs on it and they are nearly straight up! We even heard the boys complaining about them. Careful planning was required before leaving camp or one would face the wrath of "hernia hill".
Blake Jenkins won the campwide Kayak race on Thursday afternoon. Ammon Davis and Will Green received the Camp Royce award. Special thanks to Larry Runyon and Dennis Nelson for transporting boys and equipment to and from camp.
