The
mighty Glow Sassy Shad ruled the day on Thursday November 16th at Lake Texoma. John took Monte striper fishing in his 21 foot Nitro 929 Bass Rig for an all day adventure which proved to be a great trip with 17 fish weighing in at nearly 45 pounds coming home with us. We caught more than thirty but we lost count of how many we had in the live wells so we erred on the side of caution, not wanting to go over our limit of 10 apiece.
Our day began when we launched at Juniper Point and it was COLD! We immediately saw birds working but had no luck. We headed to Buncombe for shad but only caught a grand total of two, that's right two. After that we came back out and found another set of birds working but only caught one. We decided that those birds didn't know how to properly treat their angling counterparts and headed up the lake to Highport where we found another set of very active birds. We had one good drift where we caught several nice stripers then the birds and the fish were gone. We stopped in at Highport for lunch and as soon as we came back out we found a school that we stayed with for the rest of the trip. It was absolutely awesome! We would set up in front of the birds, catching fish as they worked the shad up the bank. After the birds would pass over, the graph would still show plenty of fish. We would stay with them until the graph showed no fish. This strategy payed off because that is when we would catch our largest fish with the biggest measuring 24 1/4 inches.
All in all a great fishing trip. It was pretty cold but when the fishing is that hot the cold doesn't bother you too much. John also brought us both fur lined caps which were perfect for the conditions. Can't wait to go again.
