July 23, 2005
Saturday
July 23rd Monte fished with his brother, Mitch. This was Mitch's first fishing trip in many years so the pressure was on to put him on on the fish. We went to Lake Lewisville and found the sand bass on the west end of the dam. They weren't schooling on top much so we trolled up several with hell/pet combos. We had a great time and caught up on old times after many many years apart.
We caught around ten or so and brought home 6 nice sandies. We threw back a couple of under sized hybrids too. They looked like extremely large sand bass but they had two long tooth patches so we threw em back.
It was a historic day in that Mitch had never taken a fish off the hook before but here he is doing it for the first time. Pretty cool, huh? He even got finned, ensuring that he would remember the trip for a while. Monte told him that everytime he bangs his sore finger for the next couple of days a grin should involuntarily form as he remembers the fight of the mighty sand bass. Perhaps next time we might catch so many that he gets a case of bass thumb.
Our next outing will be on the golf course. Mitch is an avid golfer and doesn't mind spending an entire day on the links. It's been a very long time since Monte has smacked a golf ball although he was hooked many moons ago. On his last outing he lost 7 balls in as many holes. He went home and never played again.
