February 3, 2008 - Monte's Metroplex Fishing

Monte fished Fairfield Lake with his friends Roy (Rock) Hudman and David Jackson last weekend and had a blast. The beast of choice was the mighty Red Drum. Although Monte is holding the whopper Red in this pic, Roy was the one who actually caught her. He was feeling puny at the time and had Monte stand in for him. That monster wore him out! Our method of operation was trolling big deep diving baits (db3's) around one of our most productive redfish honey holes. The location is top secret (unless you can tell from the pics). All three of us hooked up several times but only Roy and David actually landed fish. Monte hangs head in shame. We all assumed it would be a banner day but you know what happens when you assume. It makes an ASS out of U and ME. All of a sudden, the reds just left. We don't know where they went, all we know is that we were suddenly trolling empty water.

After that we spent several fruitless hours trolling just about everywhere we could think of with no fish. We finally gave up on the reds and threw the net around. We found zero shad, zero! But we managed two nice sized talapia and used one for cut bait. The other is presently counting his blessings somewhere in the depths of Lake Fairfield. We drifted for catfish near "The Point" and over towards the far State Park boat ramp but to no avail. Not a bite, not even a hit, not so much as a rattle.

In other, much more exciting news... Monte's oldest son Seth and his wife Sarah welcomed their first child (and Monte's first grandchild) on December 28, 2007. A beautiful baby girl named Madisen Grace. Here are some pics. Enjoy!
