Mitch
and Monte teamed up with Rock this past weekend for three separate fishing trips. We arrived at Roy's house on Friday and were on Lake Fairfield by 11:00pm looking for big bull reds. Only one catfish was taken on that trip but it was a learning experience. We met MO from the TFF board and saw exactly where he sets up to land the big ones. After only four hours of sleep Roy and Monte decided to try to put Mitch on some big ol hybrids on Richland Chambers. It was a good plan, we
usually catch our biggest hybrids of the year in late July and August not to mention boat loads of sand bass too. We picked up our friend David and headed that way but had a dickens of a time catching anything. Very few sandies were caught in spite of trolling the 309 flats hard. We decided to switch to catfish, caught some bait by the cleaning station at Fisherman's Point and drifted live shad and gold fish (leftovers from the night before) in front of windsock point.
We caught notta, nothing, zip and by 2:00pm we were spent. We felt much better after a great meal at Fisherman's Point but decided to go back to Rock's place for a siesta.
We were determined to put Mitch on some big hybrids and were convinced the evening bite would be on. We were wrong! We darn near got blanked, they just weren't on the 309 flats. Just before dark Roy took us to Ferguson Point where we landed lots of sandies and Mitch caught the biggest fish of the day, a 1 pound 13 ounce hybrid, on the very last troll of the day.
Mitch and Monte plan to hit the driving range in a couple of weeks. That should prove mighty embarrassing for the ol Mont man. Sounds fun though.
