Tying Notes: This pattern is based on Steve Thorntons Sedge Pupa. Check it out at: http://www.virtual-nymph.com/Patterns_Index_Page/Emerging_Sedge_Pupa/emerging_sedge_pupa.html Line hook shank with thread from just behind eye to bend. Snip off nymph skin at an angle and tie in at the bend (fig 1) Wrap nymph skin up towards the head. About 9-10 wraps. At start put more tension and make wraps closer than towards head. Tie off 2/3 of way to eye. Run the Prismacolor marker from front back on top of abdomen (Fig 2)

Using a bodkin, splice the thread (Fig 3) and trap a CDC feather in between (Fig 4- easier than it sounds). Line up the quill of the feather with the thread and cut between the thread and feather quill, making a CDC dubbing loop (Fig 5)

Wrap dubbing loop around thorax ~ 4 times (Fig 6) Take two pheasant tail fibers for each leg. (I coat them with Daves Fleximent to keep two fibers together) Tie in a pair of legs underneath the thorax such that the tips are extending beyond the bend and the butt ends are pointing forwars (Fig 7) Fold butt ends of legs back under body and tie in so legs are pointing straight back (Fig 8). Using a hotpoint, put a bend in the butt end of the legs at about the hook shank (optional) Clip butt end of legs 1-2 mm beyond pheasant tail tips

Cut out ~ 1mm strip of raffia. Round leading edge with scissors and tie in at thorax on both sides. Have leading edge point back towards hook bend and end just above barb (Fig 9) Cut a 2 x 2 mm strip of white closed cell foam. Tie in at head with figure 8 wraps (Fig 10). Clip so that about 0.5 mm sticks out on each side. Trim to a circular head shape. Color top and bottom with prismamarker, leaving a white area for the eyes. Tie in 3 half hitches behind eye. Put a black dot in the center of the white for the eye (Fig 11). Place a drop of cement.
