Where and when does
this Club meet?
á
We are now meeting at
the Sidewinder coffee shop near the corner of Hamilton and Chase in
Northside.
á
We try to meet on the 1st
and 3rd Sundays of each month.
Sometimes a session needs to be cancelled, so before you come to a Club
session, be sure to consult this page to make sure we are in fact meeting.
á
We try to start as
closely as possible to 2:00 PM so we can play three games and be finished by
5:00.
Next meeting: Sunday, March 20, 2005 at
2:00 PM
What should I
bring?
á
A board with a raised
grid and which can rotate easily
á
Plastic tiles
á
A chess clock
(preferably one with a digital readout)
á
Score/tile tracking
sheets (which you can download from the National SCRABBLE(r) Association here)
á
A few bucks to buy
something at Sidewinder—itÕs a wonderful new addition to our neighborhood
and deserves our business!
N.B. If you don't have a board, tiles, or a
clock, no worries! Please come and
play with us anyway!
I've never played
at a SCRABBLE¨ Club before. What
can I expect?
á
Maybe the first thing
that Club newcomers notice are the clocks. We use digital chess clocks that give each side 25 minutes
to complete their game. If you are
a newcomer, we are happy to ease you into playing with clocks.
á
The boards and tiles
will probably be different. Some
boards are custom made and won't look at all like standard issue boards. The tiles are plastic with a smooth
face so that it will be quite impossible to feel around for the blanks.
á
Expect to see scores in
the 300s and 400s. If you've never
played at a Club or tournament before, be sure to print out the lists of 2 letter words, 3 letter words,
and 3-5 letter JQXZ words so you can use them your first
few times at Club. They are
important words that you will see veteran players use very often to great
advantage.
